Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has paid homage to martyrs on the occasion of the Martyr’s Day.
At a programme organised at the Martyrs Memorial Park in Lainchaur today, PM Oli asserted that no one needs to become martyrs in the fight for rights from now onward as the democratic regime has been already set up in the country.
Stressing on the need of entire unity within the country to propel the agenda of good governance and economic development in line with the dream of martyrs, he said it is the time to usher the country to economic transformation through ‘Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali’ campaign.
“Let us all come up with resolution today again to end corruption by maintaining good governance. Let us hand over the country with equality of rights, people’s respect and rule of law to the generation to come”.
On the occasion, a contingent of Nepal Army had offered a guard of honour to the martyrs.
Also on the occasion, Kathmandu Metropolis Mayor Biddyasundar Shakya highlighted the need to work to cherish the dream of martyrs.
Also present on the occasion were ministers, constitutional bodies’ chiefs, security agencies’ chiefs, high-ranking government officials and people’s representatives.
Earlier today, the Kathmandu Metropolis had organised a morning rally from Ratna Park to Lainchaur on the same occasion. The rally was attended by distinguished personalities including Home Minster Ram Bahadur Thapa and civilians.
The Martyr’s day is celebrated in Nepal every year in memory of Shukraraj Shastri, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha, who obtained martyrdom in the fight for freedom against Rana regime in 1997 BS.
